Doing our best today for a brighter tomorrow
Class Information
Hello and a very warm welcome to our Year 5, Osprey, class page. Year 5 is an exciting start to Upper Key Stage Two. Children are encouraged to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve their goals. This year will be full of new learning and challenges which children can explore.
Reading
Reading is a very important skill. Children will have regular reading sessions in class, but they would also benefit greatly from further reading at home too. Each child will have a school reading book that they can read in class and at home. Children are also encouraged to select a book from the reading corner to inspire children to read and identify genres they enjoy. Please make sure that book bags are brought into school each day. We encourage children to read to an adult at least 4 times a week. Your child has been given a homework diary/reading journal. Please remember to sign your child's reading journal when they have read to you.
Homework
Homework Packs will be handed out on Mondays and collected the following Monday. The pack will include spellings, Grammar focus activity or a Maths focus activity as well as a reading comprehension. Children will be assigned timetables activities on TT Rockstars and comprehension activities on Reading Plus. Please note that spelling tests and times tables tests will be completed on Fridays.
PE Kit
Please make sure that your child brings in a full PE kit for every session. Year 5 will have PE on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings. All jewellery must be taken out and the correct P.E kit needs to be worn: blue shorts, white t-shirt and black P.E pumps. Long hair should be tied back in a bobble.
Our aim in Year 5 is to make sure children are prepared for the final year in school and that they feel confident and ready for the next challenges that lie ahead. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any enquiries.
We invite you to look at our class Twitter page (BHCohort2526) to keep up to date with what we are doing in our classroom.
