Hello and welcome to the Year 6 class page

This year is the final year for our children at Beech Hill Primary School, and we hope to provide the children with all the skills they will need to transition to secondary school. The year will be action-packed with lots of learning and new challenges. 

We use Class Dojo and Arbor to share information and photos of what the children are getting up to in class. Invites to the Eagle  class dojo page have been sent out by email and letter. Please check your inbox and child's books bag.

Reading

Reading is a very important skill. Children will have regular reading sessions in class, but they would also benefit greatly from further reading at home too. Each child will have a school reading book that they can read in class and at home. Children are also encouraged to select a book from the reading corner to inspire children to read and identify genres they enjoy. Please make sure that book bags are brought into school each day. We encourage children to read to an adult at least 4 times a week. Your child has been given a homework diary/reading journal. Please remember to sign your child's reading journal when they have read to you.

Homework

Your child will receive homework pack on a Friday that needs to be completed and brought back into school to be marked on the following Friday .  The work they are given will be based on what we have completed in class that week.  Please note that spellings will be handed out on a Monday and will be tested on the Friday.  It is also important that the children access Reading Plus ( 3 half hour sessions weekly)  and Times Table Rockstars regularly.

P.E. Kit

It is essential that your child has their P.E. kit in school. The P.E. sessions for Year 6 are on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Please look at the timetable link below. All jewellery must be taken out and the correct P.E kit needs to be worn: blue shorts, white t-shirt and black P.E pumps. Long hair should be tied back in a bobble. 

Our aim in Year 6 is to make sure children are prepared for the year 7 and that they feel confident and ready for the next challenges that lie ahead. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any enquiries.
